CAS Observation Leader Trendell Shorty Announced as Rucks Fellow
October 18, 2019
BATON ROUGE – LSU Center for Academic Success (CAS) Supplemental Instruction (SI) Observation Leader Trendell Shorty has been selected to become a Rucks Fellow. Along with nine other senior management majors in the E.J. Ourso College of Business, Shorty was selected by faculty members as one of the 2019-2020 inductees into the Society of Rucks Fellows.
The Rucks Fellows Program is sponsored by a generous gift from William W. and Catherine M. Rucks. Ten students who represent the highest level of academic achievement among senior management majors are selected by faculty each year to enrich their development as future business leaders.
The students selected receive exclusive opportunities, including having the right to identify themselves as Rucks Fellows. These students are also allowed the opportunity to interact with faculty and business leaders at special events, preferential enrollment in management courses and receive recognition during graduation.
“The fellowship will help open doors and create opportunities for me to connect with previous Rucks Fellows and other faculty members that are connected to my major.”
In order to qualify for recognition as a Rucks fellow, a senior management major in any of the department’s concentrations must have a grade point average in the Top 10 of all graduating seniors in the management curriculum. These students are identified early in the fall semester, usually in September.
Shorty began working with the Center for Academic Success in the fall semester of 2017. He served as a SI Leader for one year and a peer mentor for the program the following year. Shorty currently acts as an Observation Leader for the SI program at LSU where he observes each session, provides feedback for improvement and reports to staff about the weekly sessions. Shorty plans to graduate with a degree in Strategic Leadership Management with a minor in Personal Finance. After graduation he plans to pursue a JD/MBA degree or a Ph.D. in management.
