Biography
Dr. Hirschhorn is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the School of Kinesiology and serves as a core faculty member in the MSAT program. Dr. Hirschhorn teaches courses in emergency medicine, clinical skills, rehabilitation, and research in athletic training.
Before joining the faculty at LSU, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Warrior Research Center at the Auburn University School of Kinesiology where she conducted research focused on physiological monitoring and exertional heat illnesses in the tactical athlete populations. Dr. Hirschhorn has clinical athletic training experience in a variety of settings including collegiate athletics, secondary school athletics, in a physician practice, and performing arts. She has also worked as medical staff for events such as local youth soccer tournaments, the Columbia Marathon, Boston Marathon, World Police and Fire Games, and U.S. Quidditch open, among others. In addition to her experience as an athletic trainer, Dr. Hirschhorn is also a certified and licensed Advanced EMT with experience in non-emergent and 9-1-1 settings, as well as providing standby event medical coverage.
Dr. Hirschhorn has numerous publications and has given over 45 presentations at national, regional, and local meetings. She is currently serving as a member of the Athletic Training and Public Health Taskforce and is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Southeast Athletic Trainers’ Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and American Public Health Association.
