The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering is a thriving hub of cutting-edge research and teaching. With 35 Faculty Members and approximately 110 Graduate Students (inclusive of Engineering Sciences Graduate Students who work with MIE Faculty), the Department conducts extensive research, publishes in top-tier high-impact academic journals, competes for major research funding, and boasts national titles.
Since the end of the Nineteenth Century, the Department has contributed to Louisiana's economy by solving problems, generating innovations, and training future Mechanical and Industrial Engineers to make meaningful contributions in today's workforce.

The MIE Graduate Student Conference is an annual event and a venue for graduate students to present their research findings to the University Community. Bob Courter Seminars

The Dr. Robert W. Courter Seminar Series brings to campus prominent lecturers from academia, industry, business and government for the benefit of students and faculty and the community in general. Alumnus Mr. Sidney E. Fuchs sponsors the seminar series, which he dedicated to his former graduate advisor and mentor, Bob Courter. The seminars are typically held on Friday afternoons during the Fall and Spring semesters.
