Louisiana Service and Leadership (LASAL) Minor

Overview

The LASAL minor prepares Ogden Honors College students for leadership roles in Louisiana in the fields of public service, social justice, and environmental sustainability.

LASAL engages Honors College students in efforts to find solutions to Louisiana’s biggest challenges, such as coastal wetlands loss and chronic poverty. It is designed to take advantage of the Honors College’s access to cutting-edge research opportunities at LSU, to local non-profits and policy-makers, and to Louisiana's unique culture and environments.

LASAL fosters a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving and research applied to real-world issues, workplace experience and discovery. The minor culminates in the Honors Capstone, through which LASAL Scholars research and offer solutions to a specific long-term Louisiana issue that is relevant to their major or field of study.

The Application Process

Admission to the minor is at the discretion of the college. To apply, students must attend an informational meeting, complete an application, and undertake an interview. Admission is not guaranteed. Interested Honors students should contact Dr. Granger Babcock at fbabco1@lsu.edu for more information.
