Studio 151
Created in 2006, the Humanities and Social Sciences Communication Studio, known as Studio 151, is located in 151 Coates Hall. This facility is a joint project between the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Communication Across the Curriculum (CxC), the Department of Communication Studies, and Screen Arts (formerly Film & Media Arts). Studio 151 enables our students to practice with media technology, with which to complement their study of film and media theory and history. Studio 151 functions as a classroom for several FMA/SCRN courses as well as a laboratory for students and faculty to work on research and class projects. Studio 151 is also used as a venue for workshops pertaining to digital media software and hardware, or tutoring sessions with CxC mentors.
Studio 151 hosts an annual short video festival as well as special events and workshops, which are open to all members of the LSU community. In 2006, we inaugurated the studio with a documentary video project, Revisiting Flaherty’s Louisiana Story, co-sponsored by the HopKins Black Box theatre and the Center for French and Francophone Studies. The project is a collaboration among FMA/SCRN faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and our guest artist, independent filmmaker Rob Rombout.
