Study Mass Communication Abroad

Study abroad programs are the perfect catalyst for individual growth. Studies also show that students who study abroad have higher graduation rates and higher GPA's than those who do not. Students who participate in our programs have a great opportunity to increase their self-reliance and confidence. Despite a wide range of classroom courses on-campus, LSU doesn't offer everything. An exchange at a foreign or domestic university allows for experiential learning that you just can't get on our Baton Rouge campus. Additionally, LSU students repeatedly have made lifelong friends worldwide while participating in study abroad programs and exchanges. Not only do these friends offer new perspectives on life, but often offer an attractive place to stay/visit when traveling in the future: lifelong travel buddies!

The Manship School offers its students various programs to study mass communication abroad. Financial aid is available for students seeking assistance through the Manship School's scholarships and LSU's Academics Programs Abroad's scholarships.

The Olympics Project

The Olympics Project will run throughout July 2024, in conjunction with the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. The program, under the direction of Dean Bissell, will offer a 3-credit-hour course (graduate or undergraduate) that will take place in the United States via Zoom meetings and in-person in several regions of France.

The purpose of this course is to teach students how to produce written, visual and digital stories about people, places, food, culture and history via an immersive experience in three distinct regions in France during the Paris Olympic Games. The course will have a few phases to it:

  • group meetings via Zoom while in the United States
  • several days in the field conducting interviews and gathering content for the final product while in Marseille, Lyon and Paris
  • attending official Olympic events in Marseille (football), Lyon (football), and Paris (canoe slalom and basketball)
  • discovering how the different regions of the country prepare for and host the Olympic Games

This course serves as an upper division elective course for undergraduate and graduate students in the Manship School. The course will culminate by each student producing online stories, blogs, podcasts, vlogs or other digital content reflective of the stories they develop in France.

To apply for the program, submit an application by Nov. 30, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. The application is open to all Manship School undergraduate and graduate students.
