Perspectives: A CHSE Series

In the College of Human Sciences & Education, we believe sharing perspectives is integral to advocacy, education, and engagement, contributing to our College's vision of improving quality of life. The Perspectives Series provides an environment where students, faculty, staff, and community members can dialogue, educate, foster collaboration, and empower others to impact the community and become changemakers.

What Inclusion Means to Me...Journey thru the Eyes of A. P. Tureaud, Jr., LSU Integration Trailblazer, Retired Director of Special Education, and Education Consultant- March 5, 2024

The CHSE Office of Advocacy, Collaboration & Engagement hosted an insightful discussion about inclusive education and intellectual disabilities. In honor of Developmental Disabilities Month, this important topic was explored through the lens of A.P. Tureaud, Jr., a trailblazer in integration at LSU and retired Director of Special Education.

Moderated by Dean Roland Mitchell, our guest speaker, Alexander P. Tureaud, Jr., shared his experiences and insights gained from his extensive career in special education. The panel also featured esteemed individuals including:

Paul Mooney, PhD | Professor of Special Education at the LSU Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education
Willie Louviere | Director of LSU Integrative Community Studies
Anne Stuckey Williams, MSW, LCSW-BACS | Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at the LSU School of Social Work

This event hosted 75 attendees, including LSU students, professors, and staff.


LSU, Southern University and Louisiana Public Broadcasting Present a Panel Discussion – Champions of Education: Perspectives from Classroom Teachers - September 7, 2022

Daily headlines cite teacher shortages across the country, and Louisiana is experiencing unprecedented vacancies in our classrooms. Ultimately teachers are the foundation of our future workforce and are essential to the success of industries throughout the state. "What do you see...when you see a Black Man?" - July 8, 2020

Our inaugural Perspectives premiered with a virtual conversation featuring a song by two-time Grammy nominee and LSU alum Sean Ardoin of Zydekool Records.

Ardoin’s music video What Do You See? addresses racism and injustice among Black males in America. Moderated by Dean Roland Mitchell, this episode consist of a panel of community, faculty, and civic leaders in a discussion around this critical and very timely topic.
