CHSE's Office of Student Services provides multiple programs to keep students informed about their degree program progress, important university and college policies, becoming a better student, and preparation for postgraduate study/employment. The following programs are offered for CHSE students:
geauxing for gold
Geauxing for Gold is not just a workshop; it's your roadmap to success within the College of Human Sciences & Education. Whether you're facing challenges or already excelling, this workshop is tailored to meet you where you are on your academic journey. Our mission is clear: empower you with the essential tools and insights needed to thrive. You'll unlock the secrets of organization, harness your unique learning style to your advantage, and tap into a wealth of available resources. Specific major tips? We've got you covered. But it doesn't stop there. We're here to guide you in setting goals that are not just aspirations, but concrete milestones. Finish Strong
The Finish Strong workshop at the end of the semester provides invaluable guidance, resources, and strategies aimed at empowering students to maximize their potential and successfully navigate the final stages of their semester.
This workshop seeks to instill a sense of resilience, time management, and self-efficacy, equipping students with the tools they need to overcome challenges, complete assignments, and perform at their best during this critical period. By fostering a supportive learning environment and offering tailored advice, the workshop endeavors to inspire confidence and help students achieve their academic and personal goals as they approach the semester's conclusion.
Admission & Advising Meetings
Once admitted into CHSE, students are required to attend a major specific CHSE Admission & Advising meeting, held in the fall and spring semesters. These meetings provide students with an opportunity to hear from Office of Student Services staff, program faculty, and current students regarding important information on their degree program. Presentations include, but are not limited to:
- Career opportunities with the degree program
- Review of individual college records and recommended paths
- Once per year course offerings and important course prerequisite sequences
- Internship/student teaching opportunities and requirements
- Preparation for graduate/professional school or employment search
Participants will be notified of their required participation and session dates via email.
Barriers to Breakthroughs
This program is more than just a support system; it's a lifeline for students on university scholastic probation or warning, and those on CHSE College probation. It's a dynamic platform designed to empower you to not only overcome any obstacles that may have hindered your past academic success but also to boldly explore new horizons. We're dedicated to creating strong connections to the wealth of invaluable campus resources and arming you with the tools and wisdom to not just improve your academics, but to propel you toward personal and career greatness. For participants in the Barriers to Breakthroughs program, this session isn't a mere requirement; it's an opportunity to equip yourself with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate college and university policies with mastery. We're here to provide you with a robust toolkit of resources and assessments that will fuel your journey toward earning that coveted degree. And for those on university scholastic warning or probation, these biweekly meetings with our dedicated Office of Student Services counselors are your chance to seize control of your academic destiny. It's a space where progress isn't just tracked, it's celebrated. Remember, you're never alone in this journey. We're here to stand by your side, cheering you on every step of the way. Graduation Check Out
CHSE students are required to attend major specific Graduation Check Out meetings the semester prior to their intended date of graduation. Students who have a declared graduation date will be contacted via email regarding the meeting. During the meeting students will submit the required university application for degree along with other required CHSE documentation. At the meeting, students will receive a degree audit indicating their remaining graduation requirements. Important information regarding graduation eligibility, graduating semester timeline, and the commencement ceremony will be discussed. Students may be required to meet individually with the Assistant Dean to review their graduation eligibility as well.

At LSU, the world is your classroom. Not only can you decide what you want to learn, but where you want to learn it. We've got hundreds of study abroad topics and locations around the globe, so pack your bags and broaden your perspective, all while earning your degree.
CHSE even offers a CHSE LSU Global/Study Abroad Scholarship. Current sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate students enrolled in a program of study in the College of Human Sciences & Education with a 3.0 GPA who will be traveling abroad for academic purposes are eligible for this scholarship.
Center for Academic Success
Faculty and staff provide academic support as students make the transition from high school to college. The international award-winning center offers a wide variety of services to assist students in maximizing their learning potential like tutoring, workshops, and peer-led study sessions.
Disability Services
Disability Services can assist you if you have a permanent or temporary disability and require special accommodations. Services include coordination of in-class accommodations, including note takers and sign-language interpreter services, and liaison and referral to on- and off-campus resources, services, agencies, and more.
