Bertrand A. Odinet, Sr. Scholarship
Eligible recipients must be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in political science at LSU with a minimum GPA of 3.00. One award of $1000 will be made each year during the spring semester to the rising sophomore, junior, or senior student who produces the best 250-word original essay on the topic: “What one investment could local government make that would significantly enhance and improve the community?” The essay may involve investing in programs to combat poverty, promote smart growth, increase social service, improve health and safety, etc. A letter of recommendation in support of your application is also required.
The James Bolner Outstanding Student Award for Undergraduate Majors in Political Science
This award of $1,000 is awarded to an outstanding political science major in each of the four undergraduate class years. It is named in honor of James Bolner, who served on the department faculty from 1968-1999. The award recipients must be full-time students majoring in political science. Recipients must also have a 3.0 or higher GPA both in political science and in their overall course work. Recipients are eligible for consecutive awards for up to four academic undergraduate years (for a potential total of $4,000); renewal is dependent on maintaining the GPA requirements detailed above. Nomination materials must include the following items: (1) A letter of nomination from the teaching faculty member; (2) An additional letter of nomination by a second departmental faculty member; (3) A resume from the nominated student; (4) A writing sample from the nominated student. Awards are to be made each spring by the Academic Affairs Committee in the LSU Department of Political Science; these awards are to be based on the academic excellence of the student nominees. In making the award, the committee may also consider the financial needs of a nominee.
