Scholarships awarded annually by SIS
SIS Graduate Assistantships
All students will be notified whenever a SIS Graduate Assistantship becomes available. Recipients must be able to come to the SIS offices on the LSU campus during normal business hours and available to work 20 hours per week. The assistantships include a tuition remission and a stipend per fiscal year. Out-of-state students who are awarded a graduate assistantship are also granted a nonresident fee exemption.
SIS Travel Awards
SIS provides a limited number of awards to help to defray the costs of travel to conferences and other professional meetings. Students must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and be enrolled in classes during the semester in which travel will occur. Proof of conference registration must be provided before funds will be dispersed
The SIS Student Travel Fund provides a maximum of $500 to a student who is presenting a poster or paper at a conference or professional meeting. To apply, submit proof of acceptance by the conference or meeting and a 500 word essay explaining the ways in which attendance will benefit your academic and/or professional career to Ms. Nicole Rozas. Proof of conference registration must be provided before funds will be dispersed.
The SLIS Frank & Margaret McEntee Travel Fellowship Fund provides a maximum of $500 to a student who is attending the ALA Annual Conference. Recipients should have a career goal of public library service, including adult services or youth services. To apply, submit a 500-word essay explaining the ways in which attendance will benefit your academic and/or professional career to Ms. Nicole Rozas. Proof of conference registration must be provided before funds will be dispersed.
The Beth M. Paskoff Award provides a maximum of $500 to a student making a presentation at a regional or national conference. To apply, submit proof of acceptance by the conference and a 500-word essay explaining the ways in which attendance will benefit your academic and/or professional career to Ms. Nicole Rozas. Proof of conference registration must be provided before funds will be dispersed.
The Graduate School manages the Graduate Student Association (GSA) Travel Award. This award provides reimbursement of approved travel expenses to qualified students who attend widely recognized, professional conferences to present the results of their research.
SIS Scholarships
SIS awards scholarships each fall. Students will be notified when the scholarship application program has opened.
Applicants must have completed at least six hours of SIS courses and have an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
The SIS scholarships are listed below, categorized by requirements for eligibility. Please note that Scholarship amounts will vary from year to year. The amounts displayed below are based on scholarship amounts given during the last fiscal year.

Louisiana Library Association Trustees Section Fellowship
Awarded to a student who is an employee of a Louisiana public library
Mary Hutcheson Memorial Scholarship
Mary Marguerite Hanchey Memorial Fellowship
Preference will be given to a Louisiana resident with demonstrated leadership skills
Nettie P. Wilson Scholarship

Preference will be given to a minority student, including African American, Hispanic,
Native American, and Asian Pacific Islander
Richard W. Peck Scholarship
Preference will be given to a student interested in pursuing a career in youth services

External Awards
Several state and national associations and organizations offer awards to students enrolled in MLIS programs. Interested students must contact the relevant association directly. Students who receive such awards are still eligible for SIS awards and scholarships.
